THE MUSICIANS

It’s quite remarkable how many great jazz musicians came from the state of South Carolina and Charleston, in particular.

Many of the following musicians are native to Charleston or other cities in South Carolina.  Others were residents who trained with the Jenkins Orphanage Bands.  They each had careers – short or long-lived — performing and recording jazz as soloists and ensemble musicians.
